Meet Your Maker: ColorFiles

It's time for another Meet Your Maker feature! This week I sat down with Victoria at ColorFiles. What drew me to ColorFiles was how clean and modern her graphic designs were. Then I discovered her balloon animal, drink recipe and typography prints and I fell in love. I wanted to feature Victoria's structural designs and assigned her with the task of recreating our beloved flagship San Antonio public library, and boy did she deliver. She was a dream to work with and I still swoon every time her posts come across my IG feed.

I mean, seriously.

So how did you discover your creative super powers?

I have been crafting and creating art since I was 11 years old. Mixed media was always my specialty. Last May, I met the love of my life and he was surprised to learn that I had no experience with graphic design. He taught me how to use various Adobe programs, and it drastically changed both my art and my career. My brand image reflects the style I’ve created throughout my years of experience.

What made you decide to open up shop?

I put so much effort into my designs that I eventually fall in love with every piece. My instinct is to share it with the world, at a fair price. I make my Instant Download prints $5 because I want it on everyone’s walls. (Did you catch that? ALL her designs are available for just $5 and they are instant download. Which means you could be downloading some bad ass wall art right this second!)

What inspires you?

Everything. People, places, things. I’m always looking for beauty and inspiration, and I find it everywhere. My eyes often follow bright colors, nature, and geometry.

What advice do you have for other makers?

The hardest part of selling creative goods is actually finding your craft and making it a brand. The most important thing you can do is have patience with yourself, and understand that is an ongoing process. You can set goals to achieve, but there really isn’t any END goal in this business. It’s always changing, YOU are always changing, and so is your brand. Redefine success by focusing on short-term instead of long-term achievements. If you look too far into the future, you can’t see what is in front of you.

Who is your crafting/maker idol?

My mom has been the biggest influence on my creativity. She was always involved in my school projects, made my Halloween costumes every year, baked extravagantly decorated birthday cakes, and pursued DIY projects. Most of my family has been a good influence on self-taught skills, and I have applied that philosophy to my business. There is great satisfaction in accomplishing something all on your own. (Preach.)

What's currently on your playlist/watchlist?

I’m currently catching up with Game of Thrones. I love watching things that remind me of my mortality because it allows me to have a more positive attitude. I also love comedy-- I just finished Parks and Recreation AGAIN, as I am highly motivated by Leslie Knope. I am anxiously awaiting the return of X-Files, so I’ll probably start re-watching some Monster-of-the-Week episodes for kicks!

Is your girl crush as big as mine right about now? If so, you can visit ColorFiles on Etsy, FB and IG and fawn all over her just like me.
